Wow… We’re Half Way Through June!

It’s unreal, but here we are–half way through the month already. At WCWF there’s a lot going on behind the scenes to ensure a great experience for attendees, guests, and presenters.

Did you get the Newsletter that went out last week? If not, then you’re not signed up for it. Let me know and we’ll add you.

The Festival is still available for $139, but as the clock strikes midnight on June 30, 2022, the price increases to $159.

It will increase again on August 1st, 2022 to $179.

Just saying… 😎

Check out the Virtual Book Bar.

You don’t have to attend the Festival to have your books on the Virtual Book Bar.

Cost is only $10 for max three books. Payable by e-transfer or we can invoice you on PayPal.

This is a wonderful way to get your books out in the virtual world. You never know who’s looking, always remember that. πŸ€“

Adding things to a festival swag bag is a great marketing tool. Heck it’s even done at the Oscars, right?

We don’t want to break your budget, so there’s a SideBar Sponsorship opportunity that allows anyone to pay $25 to have an item added to the swag bag (that means everyone gets one in their bag) and listed on our website too.

Swag could be anything small.

  • a business card
  • a lapel button
  • book mark
  • logo pen
  • coupon
  • anything small to promote your business/site/book

When you register, you’re given the option to do a free blue pencil with one of the presenters.

This means that they’ll read a small portion of your work and discuss it with you. Answer your questions and offer constructive advice and direction.

We will contact all those who signed up to request their sample writing so the presenters can have them prior to the meeting.

There are a limited number of spots available so register and book early. Even if you don’t get your first or second choice, it’s good to let someone else take a look at your work.

Once the appointments run out, a waiting list will be established.

Make sure you follow the page and stay in the loop.

Newsletters have been going out monthly, but will increase as time ticks down.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email: wcwfestival@gmail.com

Keep writing. Keep connecting. It really is important. πŸ’―

UPDATES and NEWS, Wine Country Writers Festival

What’s a “Blue Pencil?” How Will it Help Me?

A blue pencil (sometimes referred to as a red pencil) is a process by which you, the writer, submit up to 750 words of your work prior to the event so that a professional writer/industry person may look over it and then meet to discuss it with you.

During the session you’ll be able to discuss any issues or questions you have about your work.

The meetings are short, and because the pages have been previously provided, an immediate discussion can occur. It is meant to spur positive energy and may come in the form of corrections, suggestions, or opinions.

It is always good to have experienced eyes see your work as it can often be invaluable in moving it to the next level.

How you can prepare for your Blue Pencil Appointment:

  • submit your pages well in advance
  • have any questions ready that you want to ask
  • ask for professional opinions
  • leave the defensiveness at the door. It doesn’t help you.
  • be ready for this question: What is your book about? Practice a one minute answer–or even shorter. Include your genre, sub-genre, (ie: Fiction, genre: Romance, sub-genre: Young adult. If there are further descriptions then include like historical, LGBTQ, or Christian etc. The reader should not be surprised by such sub-genres) basic plot to pique interest. Think of this as your one minute pitch. Be as specific as possible.

Wine Country Writers’ Festival blue pencils will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis. You must first be registered. There is a $15 fee for a 12 minute blue pencil.

When you register please indicate whether or not you’re interested in a blue pencil.
