Society History

Wine Country Writers’ Festival Society was established in 2022 after the debut festival was held virtually in 2021. Over the past five years it has continued to grow and develop, creating a space for writers, readers, and literary enthusiasts to come together, connect with community, and experience the magic of storytelling.

Timeline:

2021

  • Debut Festival was held online due to COVID-19

2022

  • WCWF Society and board established
  • First Keynote Speech was delivered by Chief Clarence Louie from the Osoyoos Band

2023

  • Hosted Indigenous Voices Award winner Bryan Isaac from the Okanagan Band

2024

  • First community partnership formed with the Dream Café
  • First government grant through BC Arts ($6K)
  • First grant from the City of Penticton ($2K)
  • WCWF was handed over to an all-new board

2025

  • Formed partnerships with Okanagan College, Pulp Literature, and Black Fox Marketing
